With over 960 employees in Bulgaria, Dundee Precious Metals is fully committed to ensuring the health and safety of each and every one. All our site locations have a dedicated health and safety manager to develop, monitor and improve best practices and outcomes.
We focus our attention on comprehensive personnel training, improvement of work conditions, occupational health and safety and the environment.
Safety is not simply defined in policies and procedures, it is considered and a daily focus every day, both at work and hopefully at home.
Employees are encouraged to think about safety in innovative ways. An example of this is our health and safety initiative ‘Because I Care’. Employees took part in a film, talked about the role of safety on site, and how important this was for their families too. Inviting the workers to take a leading role in talking about safety was very impactful. The process, the film premiere and the awards distributed to the participants increased awareness of safety in a fun and creative way.
Health and safety focus at our Chelopech site is a focus of our communication and activities in the community. A range of events organized with schools, local administration and the general public raises awareness and critical skills such as use of fire extinguishers, reacting in emergency situations, awareness of resources that could be shared in case of emergency.
Open Doors Day creates a unique opportunity for people outside the organization to visit the underground mine and see the processing of ore. While visitors are on site and learning what the company does, they are exposed to safety training such as working with fire extinguishers and a simulated rescue of an injured person. Following demonstrations visitors are invited to try themselves.
