Tsvetomir Velkov's career development can be described as dynamic and changing. He started work at Chelopech as an intern while he was a student at St. Ivan Rilsky University of Mining and Geology and then moved to the permanent position of Geotechnical Engineer in 2001. In 2005 he was nominated and honoured with the Mining Journal's Outstanding Achievement Awards – Young Achiever of the Year in Mining Industry.

After 2005, Tsvelomir Velkov took different roles - from Senior Geotechnical Engineer through Mine Superintendent and Technical Services Manager. In 2015, he assumed the role of Production Manager and in 2016 - the role of Operations Manager. Tsvetomir is also the author of a number of geotechnical and mining articles in mining magazines. Member of the International Society for Rock Mechanic (ISRM) since 2013.
